Reconciliation Long Weekend

Monday 31st May 2021 was the Reconciliation long weekend in Canberra. I went along to the Whiskey Live tasting session on the Saturday and needed to get out for some fresh air on the Sunday so I headed down to the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) to take some bird and plant photos. These gardens are entirely Australian native plants and the bird diversity is excellent. I took my new Surui tripod with the Manfrotto fluid head and found a nice spot in the sun at the new Banksia garden display. There were lots of New Holland Honey Eaters darting around and some Eastern Spinebill Honeyeaters although I only managed one half decent photo of this beautiful bird. I then moved to another spot and saw a brilliantly bronze scaled bird walking through the undergrowth tossing the leaf matter around and had never see one of these before. After some clever identification skills by my mum later in the morning it turned out to be a Bassian Thrush which isn’t seen very often in the gardens so I was thrilled to have a new lifer to add to my list. I hope you like the photos.
